Battlefield 6 is already expected to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but one insider claims it’ll be out on last gen consoles too.
Last year, industry insider Tom Henderson claimed to have information on the next Battlefield game, unofficially referred to by fans as Battlefield 6.
Now he has not only reiterated those claims, but he’s shared a couple of new details about it in a new video, namely that it will be a cross-gen title.
This means it will release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as the newly released PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, plus PC.
Given that one of the supposedly big features of Battlefield 6 is an option for 128-player battles, you can probably expect this feature to be absent from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, something Henderson suggested back in June.
However, according to him, that doesn’t mean development on the current gen version will be held back or said version will end up being limited because of the existence of a last gen version.
‘A completely different studio or a different part of [DICE] is working on the previous gen version and it’s something that we simply should not be worried about,’ he says.
His video also mentions that the game will be something of a soft reboot, similar to what Activision did with 2019’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, and could simply be called Battlefield.
Henderson’s initial claims included that Battlefield 6 will take inspiration from Battlefield 3 in terms of its modern setting, something fellow insider Jeff Grubb also claims.
On a related note, Henderson addresses rumours of a Battlefield 3 remaster, saying that he has heard no evidence of it and that the initial source of the rumour isn’t entirely reliable.
Battlefield 6 is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in 2021.
