Nyssa Davis was shot dead by her five year-old cousin with a gun Nyssa’s 12 year-old brother gave the boy, police say
A five year-old boy shot his nine year-old cousin dead with a gun the victim’s 12 year-old brother gave him, police say. Nyssa Davis was shot in the back of the head at her home in Philadelphia last Wednesday, and rushed to hospital, where she later died.
Nyssa’s brother, who has not been named because of his age, has now been charged with manslaughter over claims he gave the five year-old boy the gun while they were playing.
The three children were home alone at the time, investigators say, with Nyssa’s dad Blake Davis, 39, also charged crimes including manslaughter and child endangerment.
Speaking at a vigil held in Nyssa’s memory, the youngster’s mother – who asked not to be named – said: ‘These kids with these video games and these Nerf guns, just stop because my son kept thinking she had another life.

‘And he woke up this morning saying, “Mommy, it’s going to be OK. It was an accident. She’s going to come back.’
The grieving woman said Nyssa’s dad was also stricken by her death, telling CBS Philadelphia: ‘Her dad, he loved her to death. I know Blake right now is crying. He’s broken on the inside.’
Nyssa’s brother was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, and is being charged as a juvenile over her death.
Officials have yet to say when he will make his first appearance in court.
Family friend Patrick Flood told The Philadelphia Enquirer that Nyssa was ‘quiet, nice, peaceful, loving.’
